| Unfathomable | Difficult or impossible to understand |
| Incredulous | Not able or willing to believe something |
| Roguishly | Playfully; mischievous |
| Scatterbrained | Flighty, thoughtless, or disorganized |
| Scowled | Frown in an angry or bad-tempered way |
| Winced | To draw back or tense the body, as from pain or from a blow |
| Aloofness | Distant physically or emotionally |
| Cunning | Getting what is wanted in a clever and often deceptive way |
| Gallantly | Brave, spirited, noble-minded |
| Ornery | Stubborn or always up to something, often in trouble |
| Quivering | tremble or shake with a slight rapid motion |
| Apprehensive | Fearful, nervous |
| Contemptuously | Without respect; in a hateful manner |
