M.4.5.3 Vocab

Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Perimeter- the distance around a two-dimensional figure
Area- the number of square units needed to cover a surface or figure
Square Unit- a square with side length of 1 unit; a measure of area
Formula- a rule that uses symbols to show a relationship; used to find a value
Dimension- a measurement of length, width, height of an object
Length- is the distance from one end to the other end of an object
Rectangle- a quadrilateral with 4 right angles and 2 sets of parallel sides
Square- a quadrilateral with 4 right angles, 4 congruent sides and 2 sets of parallel sides; a special rectangle
Unit- a quantity that is the standard of measurement
Polygon- a two-dimensional shape with 3 or more straight sides
Congruent- having the same size and shape
