What is the difference between heterozygous and homozygous genotypes? Heterozygous means two different alleles. Tt. Homozygous means two of the same alleles TT or tt.
What genotype is considered hybrid? Hybrid means different alleles, Tt.
What genotype is considered purebred? Purebred means the same alleles TT, or tt.
What is a genotype ? The genes represented with letters,: Tt, TT, tt.
What is a phenotype? A physical trait: blonde hair, blue eyes, etc
How many alleles for a trait does each parent have? Each parent contributes one allele for each trait.
How many chromosomes do we have? Each parent gives 23 chromosomes, to total 46, 23 pairs.
What is a dominant allele represented by? When does a dominant phenotype show up? Dominant alleles are represented by a capital letter, they show up in a phenotype whenever they are present. Bb, or BB, the dominant trait would show.
Why would a Punnett Square be used in genetics? Punnet squares are used to predict possible outcomes in offspring, to find the probability of having offspring with a certain trait.
If the dad is dominant blue eyes, BB. And the mom is recessive green, bb. What chance does their their child have of having blue eyes. 100%
When given two heterozygous brown eyed parents, B= brown, b=blue. What percent of the offspring is expected to have brown eyes. 75%
