What did people trade to Arabia? They traded items such as spices, incense, perfumes, precious metals, ivory, and silk to Arabia.

What was another name for God? Allah is another name for God.
Who is Muhammad? He was the prophet of Islam whom Muslims recognize as Allah’s messenger to all humankind. His teachings form the basis of Islam.
What is Islam? It is a monotheistic religion that developed in Arabia in the seventh century AD.
Lesson 2
What year did Muhammad die? He died in 632
What is a caliph? It is a supreme political and religious leader in a Muslim government.
Who are the Umayyads? They are a dynasty that ruled the Muslim Empire from AD 661 to 750 and later established a kingdom in Al-Andalus.
Are there more Sunni or Shi'a in the world today? About 88.5 percent of Muslims are Sunni
What are Sufi's? They are a Muslim who seeks to achieve direct contact with God through mystical means.
Lesson 3
What is the House of Wisdom? It is a center of learning established in Baghdad in the 800s.
What is calligraphy? It is the art of beautiful handwriting.
How much larger was the population of Baghdad than Cordoba? It was about 4 times larger in population.
Were men and women equal in early Islam? No they were not equal. Men had many more privilege's.
What was the smallest city in 900 Ad? Rome was the smallest city.v
