Electricity

Electricty

QuestionAnswer
Electricity Form of energy
Current Electricty a steady flow of charge though wires and circuits
Static Electricity involves electric charge collecting in one place and sometimes suddenly jumping from one place to another. e.g. lightning
Uses of static electricity forensic finger printing, touchscreen technology, clingfilm
Circuit The flow of electrons in a wire
Electrons Have a negative charge
Conductors substances that allow electricity to travel through them.
Insulators substances that do not allow electricity through themselves.
Fuse a safety device - too much current through circuit and fuse blows
brown live wire (right)
green/yellow earth
blue neutral (left)
Current (I) Measured in Amps (A) using an Ammeter - in series
Voltage (V) / Potential difference Measured in Volts (V) using a voltmeter - in parallel
Ohms Law V = I x R
Resistance (R) Measured in Ohms using an Ohmmeter
Diode a device that allows current to flow through it in one direction only.
Light Emitting Diode This type of diode emits light when it is connected in forward bias.
Light Dependent Resistor is a type of variable resistor that changes resistance dramatically in response to light.
Thermistor is a device made of material that reduces its resistance significantly when the temperature of the device changes
Power Power (Watts) = current x voltage

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
