Study set for my World History students on the rise and fall of the Roman Empire

QuestionAnswer
What was the Pax Romana? A period of peace and prosperity in Rome that lasted 200 years.
Who was the first emperor of Rome? Augustus Caesar
Why was Diocletian important? When he came into power, Rome was in bad shape. He created reforms that strengthened the empire like limiting prices to fight inflation and dedicating more resources to the army. He split the empire in two and appointed a co-emperor to rule the West.
What were the Roman upper class called? Patricians
What were the Roman lower class called? Plebians
How did Caesar expand the boundaries of Rome? Military conquests
Why did the Senate assassinate Caesar? They did not approve of his reforms and thought he would become too powerful
Who was Octavian? Caesar's grand nephew who inherited his fortune and two top generals.
Repbulic A government elected by the people.
Aqueduct A structure that carries water over long distances.
What caused the Roman Empire to fall? Inflation, weakened military, the split of the empire.
Why did Diocletion split the empire? He believed it would become more organized if two rulers could reside over both.
