File Size The digital size of an image. To find this, multiply width in pixels by height in pixels.
Pixels dots (squares) of information that make up an image
Resolution quality of an image measured in pixels per inch (ppi)
Lasso a selection tool that the user controls the shape
Icon a picture or symbol that represents the selected tool
TIFF Tagged Image File Format- saves an image without any compression
Inverse Selection an option in the Select menu that allows the user to select the background of an image after already selecting the foreground
Panels small windows that contain a variety of settings such as layers, color, navigation (zoom), and history
Filters commands that can significantly alter an image’s appearance
Dodge a tool used to lighten parts of your image
Burn a tool used to lighten parts of your image
PDF Portable Document File enables the printing and viewing of documents- files look the same on every operating system
Layers keeps different parts of the design separate from each other
Font a named set of text and numeric characters that share the same look and feel
Gradient a blend of colors used to fill a selection of a layer or an entire layer
Options Bar a bar at the top of the workspace that contains options for tools to help manage your workspace
CMYK color mode used for 4-color printing (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) any combination can make up 16.7 million colors
RGB a color mode popular for computer graphics and has a maximum of 16.7 million colors (red, green, blue)
Magic Wand a selection tool that selects an area based on similarly colored pixels
Color Picker dropper icon, this tool allows you to select the exact color anywhere on your screen
JPEG Joint Photographic Experts Group, a file type commonly used for images, flattens layers
History Panel shows you all the moves you have done in the current session
Hue the name of a color, each color has a specific numeric setting in the digital world
Scale to make larger or smaller (use Edit- Transform) (Command +T)
Saturation the strength and intensity of a color
Crop to cut the entire image to a smaller section
Smudge Tool tool used to move pixels on the same layer
Merge Layers combine all layers into one layer
Exposure mount of light the image was exposed to, can be adjusted in editing
