| altitude of a prism | segment that joins the planes of the bases. |
| altitude of a circle | perpendicular segment that joins the planes of the bases. |
| altitude of a pyramid | the perpendicular segment from the vertex to the center of the base. |
| altitude | a perpendicular segment from the bertex to the center of the base |
| bases | a face |
| center | the middle of the shape |
| circumference of a sphere | the circumfrence of a great circle. |
| composite space figure | combines two or more of these figures |
| cone | like a pyramid, but its base is a circle |
| cube | a prism with square faces |
| cylinder | has two congruent parallel bases |
| edge | a segment that is the intersection of two faces |
| faces | polygons of a polyhedron |
| geometric probability | uses geometric figures to represent occurrences of events. |
| great circle | if the center of the circle is also the center of the sphere. |
| height | is the length of an altitude |
| hemisphere | is the two parts made by the great circle |
| lateral area | is the sum of the areas of the lateral faces |
| lateral face | the faces that are not the base. The area of the resulting rectanngle of a circle |
| net | a two dimensional pattern that you fold to form a three dimensional shape |
| oblique cylinder | a cylinder that is not straight and the right angle is outside of the shape |
| oblique prism | the height or altitude outside of the prism |
| polyhedron | a three dimensional figure whose surfaces are polygons |
| prism | a polyhedron with two congruent parallel bases |
| pyramid | a polyhedron in which one face (the base) can be any polygon and the other faces are triangles that meet at a common vertex |
| regular pyramid | a pyramid whose base is a regular polygon. |
| right cone | the altitude is perpendicular segment from the vertex to the center of the base. |
| right cylinder | the segment joining the centers of the bases is an altitude. |
| right prism | the lateral faces are rectangles & a lateral edge is an altitude |
| slant height | is the length of the altitude of a lateral face of the pyramid |
| sphere | the set of all points in space equidistant from a given point |
| surface area | is the sum of areas of the lateral faces and the two bases |
| vertex | a point where edges intersect |
| volume | is the space that a figure occupies. |
