| argument | a disagreement involving two sides |
| counterclaim | the opposing view in an argument |
| ellipsis | three dots indicating a pause in thought or missing words |
| incident | something that happens; usually has a negative connotation |
| reasoning | thought process; way of thinking |
| text structure | how written information is organized: cause/effect, sequence or order, descriptive, compare/contrast, and problem/solution |
| style | the way a writer writes: narrative, expository (informational), argumentative/persuasive, and descriptive |
| summarize | to focus on the main points or key details; usually has 3 parts: 1. beginning, 2. middle, and 3. end |
| support | to provide evidence to back up or prove a claim or statement |
| suspense | excitement or anxiousness over what might happen |
