What was the church not happy with? The church was mad at kings and leaders like Otto.
What is a lay investiture? A lay investiture is the appointment of religious officials by kings or nobles.

What years were considered the dark ages for Western Europe? The years 500-1000 were considered the dark ages for Western Europe.
What are some problems the church had? Priests married, bishops sold positions, and kings appointed church bishops.
What is a simony? A simony is the selling or buying of a position in a Christian church.
What was the highest position of the church? The highest point someone of the church was a pope.
Who was Urban II? Urban II was a Roman Catholic pope from 1088 to 1099. He called on Christians to launch the First Crusade.

What is the three field system? The three field system is a system of farming developed in medieval Europe, in which farmland was divided into three fields of equal size and each of these was successively planted with a winter crop, planted with a spring crop, and left unplanted.
Which animal did people switch to for transportation instead of oxen? People switched to riding horses instead of oxen.
What was a guild? A guild was a medieval association of people working at the same occupation, which controlled its members’ wages and prices.
What were the three roles of people in the guild? The apprentice, journeyman, and the master.
What item was the most common trade item? Cloth was the most common trade item.

Who invaded Britain in the 800's? Danish Vikings fiercely raided the Vikings.
Who was William the Conqueror? He was King of England from 1060 to 1087; he was a powerful French noble who conquered England and brought feudalism to England.
What were the English kings two goals? They wanted to hold on to and add French territory and strengthen their power over the nobles and church.
What was the Magna Carta? The Magna Carta was a document, written by English nobles, as a way to present their demands to the king. It was a contract between the king and nobles of England.
What was the Estates General? It was an assembly of representatives from all three of the estates, or social classes, in France.

What was the Great Schism? It was a division in the medieval Roman Catholic Church, during which rival popes were established in Avignon and in Rome.
How long did the Great Famine last? The Great Famine lasted about two years.
What was the origin of the bubonic plague? Fleas were the origin of the bubonic plague.
How many people in Europe died to the bubonic plague? 25 million people in Europe died to the bubonic plague.
What was the Hundreds Year War? The Hundreds year war was a a conflict in which England and France battled on French soil on and off from 1337 to 1453.
