| onomatopoeia | use of a word whose sound makes you think of its meaning (hint: whoosh) |
| alliteration | the repeating of beginning consonant sounds |
| hyperbole | exaggeration or overstatement for emphasis |
| irony | using a word, phrase, or idea to mean the exact opposite |
| allusion | a reference to a well-known person, place, thing, or event |
| repetition | the repeating of a word or phrase to emphasize an idea |
