| conflict | the problem in the story that triggers the actions |
| foreshadowing | writer's hints or clues about what is going to happen in the story |
| point of view | the angle from which the story is told (1st person or 3rd person) |
| exposition | at the beginning of the plot; introduces setting, backgroud, and characters |
| protagonist | the chief person in a story or drama |
| antagonist | the person or thing fighting against the protagonist; villian or negative force |
| dialog | when characters speak |
| rising action | central part of the story during which problems arise and action leads up to the climax |
| conflict | the problem which triggers the action (5 types) |
| climax | turning point in a story |
| falling action | follows the climax; action that leads to the resolution |
| resolution | end of a story; problems are solved |
