Chemical Reaction The process by which one or more substances change to produce one or more different substances
Chloroplast A membrane-bound organelle in plants that is the site of photosynthesis
Energy The ability of a system to do work; required for changes to happen within a system
Glucose A sugar composed of six carbon atoms that is the preferred energy source for most cells; produced by photosynthesis
Matter Cycle The movement of elements or molecules through a repeated sequence of events
Microorganism An organism that is too small to be seen with the naked eye
Photosynthesis A chemical reaction during which plants convert radiant energy from the Sun to chemical energy; the reaction converts carbon dioxide and water into sugar (glucose) and oxygen
Phytoplankton Microscopic plants that live in aquatic environments and perform photosynthesis
Product A substance produced during a chemical reaction
Reactant A substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a chemical reaction
Cellular Respiration The process through which cells convert fuel into energy and nutrients
Transpiration The exhalation of water vapor through the stomata of a plant or leaf
