| Chemical Reaction | The process by which one or more substances change to produce one or more different substances |
| Chloroplast | A membrane-bound organelle in plants that is the site of photosynthesis |
| Energy | The ability of a system to do work; required for changes to happen within a system |
| Glucose | A sugar composed of six carbon atoms that is the preferred energy source for most cells; produced by photosynthesis |
| Matter Cycle | The movement of elements or molecules through a repeated sequence of events |
| Microorganism | An organism that is too small to be seen with the naked eye |
| Photosynthesis | A chemical reaction during which plants convert radiant energy from the Sun to chemical energy; the reaction converts carbon dioxide and water into sugar (glucose) and oxygen |
| Phytoplankton | Microscopic plants that live in aquatic environments and perform photosynthesis |
| Product | A substance produced during a chemical reaction |
| Reactant | A substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a chemical reaction |
| Cellular Respiration | The process through which cells convert fuel into energy and nutrients |
| Transpiration | The exhalation of water vapor through the stomata of a plant or leaf |
