The Eyes

| Parts of the Eye | Sclera, Cornea, Conjunctiva, Choroid, Iris, Pupil, Lens, Retina, Aqueous humor, Vitreous humor, Meibomian glands, Lacrimal glands and ducts, Optic nerve |
| Sclera | “white of the eye”—Outer protective layer of the eye and the portion seen from the outside |
| Cornea | Transparent part of the sclera, which is in front of the aqueous humor and over the iris |
| Conjunctiva | Mucous membrane lining the eyelids and covering the anterior portion of the sclera |
| Choroid | Middle layer of the eye interlaced with many blood vessels. There are three parts of the choroid: the iris, the pupil, and the lens. |
| Iris | Pigmented muscular structure that allows light to pass through. The iris is the “colored” part of the eye |
| Pupil | Opening in the center of the iris |
| Lens | Located directly behind the pupil, it focuses and bends light. |
| Retina | Innermost layer of the eye, which contains vision receptors |
| Aqueous humor | Watery liquid found in the anterior cavity of the eye |
| Vitreous humor | Jelly-like substance found behind the lens that helps the eye maintain its shape |
| Meibomian glands | Oil glands found in the upper and lower edges of the eyelids that help lubricate the eye |
| Lacrimal glands and ducts | Produce tears |
| Optic nerve | Carries visual impulses from the retina to the brain |
