Explain the purpose of South Carolina declaring the tariff null and void. South Carolina proclaimed the tariff was unconstitutional, therefore, their state did not recognize the law and refused to pay it
What is the significance of South Carolina declaring a federal law null and void? They are questioning “national supremacy” (the authority of the federal government) (this could have started a civil war)
How did Jackson respond to the Nullification Crisis? He wanted to use federal troops to ensure laws passed by the federal congress enforced in all states.
