Natural DisastersDefinitions
Tornado A violent rotating column of air.
Drought a period of time when no or little rain falls.
Tsunami A large wave caused by an earthquake or volcano in the ocean.
Blizzard a long lasting storm snow with strong winds and snow fall.
Volcano A hole in the earth's crust that can spew lava, gas, and ash.
Flood Lakes, streams and rivers overflow. It rains so much that the land can no longer absorb water.
Earthquake sudden shaking of the ground caused by the movement of the earth's crust
Avalanche A large amount of snow or ice that falls down a mountain.
