Vocabulary for Polynomials, Monomials, Like Terms, Distributive Property
Term | Definition |

Monomial | Has one term. It can be a number, letter, or product of letters and numbers |
Polynomial | Has many terms. They have special names such as binomials and trinomials |
Binomial | The prefix bi means two. These polynomials have two terms separated by a + or - sign. Examples: x +3 7m+2n 4xy^2-3x2y |
Trinomial | The prefix tri means three. These polynomials have three terms separate by a + or - sign Example: 8m3 + 4m2+2m |
Descending | Going from largest to smallest |
Like terms | Terms that contain the same numbers, variables, and exponents Example: 3a and 5a 3 and 5 3ab^2 and 5 ab^2 |
Variable | A letter used in math to represent a number that can change |
Exponent | Tells you the number of times to multiply a number by itself Example: 3^2 which means 3x3 |
