| figurehead | carved image on the prow (i.e. front) of a ship; a person who seems to be the leader, but has little real power |
| penitent | regretful, sorry for a wrongdoing or mistake |
| pardon | to forgive someone for a crime, wrongdoing, or mistake |
| merciful | showing mercy (or forgiveness), kindness, or compassion |
| rectify | to make right, correct |
