Parts of a cell
| Parts of a cell | definition |
|---|---|
| DNA | Deoxyribose nucleic acid |
| cytoplasm | The substance contained within the plasma membrane of the cell. The region in which translation takes place. |
| ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM | The area where most proteins and lipids synthesize. A "hallway" between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. |
| ENZYME | An organic catalyst. |
| mRNA | type of RNA which transports the information about the sequence of the amino acids in the protein to be manufactured, from the nucleus to the ribosomes |
| mRNA | Messenger RNA |
| ORGANELLE | The membrane bound parts of a cell |
| RIBOSOME | A cellular component composed of proteins and another class of RNA |
| Nucleus | The part of a cell that contains most of the cell's genetic information |
| tRNA | Transfer RNA |
| Cytoplasm | The gellish material of a cell outside the cell's nucleus |
| ER | folded membrane that forms a network of interconnected compartments inside the cell. Because it's folded, it can cover a large area in a small sp |
| Ribosomes | the sites where the cell assembles enzymes and other proteins according to the directions of the DNA. |
| Golgi apparatus | a series of closely stacked, flattened membrane sacs that receives newly synthesized proteins and lipids from the ER and distributes them to the plasma membrane and other cell organelles |
| Lysosomes | organelles that contain digestive enzymes |
| Lysosomes | Organelles that digest excess or worn out cell parts, food particles, and invading viruses or bacteria. |
| mitochondria | organelles in which food molecules are broken down to release energy. This energy is then stored in other molecules that can power cell reactions easily |
| nucleus | largest organelle found in a cell |
| nucleus | the brains of the cell |
| nucleolus | found within the nucleus; a region that produces tiny cell particles that are involved in protein synthesis. |
| plasma membrane | regulates what inters and exits the cell and helps maintain a chemical balance within the cell |
| Ribosomes | They are considered cell organelles, they are not bounded by a membrane |
| Ribosomes | the sites where the cell assembles enzymes and other proteins according to the directions of the DNA |
| Vacuoles | sac of fluid that is surrounded by a membrane; can store food, enzymes, and other materials needed by a cell. |
