Describe the character of Telemachus. Son of Odysseus, who has courage and a good heart
Who is Eumaeus? Swine herd, a loyal servant/shepherd who helps Odysseus reclaim his throne
What role does Athena play in reuniting Odysseus with his son, Telemachus? she disguises Odysseus to look younger so his son can identify him
How does Telemachus respond to his dad revealing himself? Why? He doesn't believe its his father, he thinks hes a god
Give two reasons why Telemachus might have had trouble identifying his father? He never met his dad and time has been too long
How does Odysseus feel about the suitors? How have they injured and betrayed him? not happy & has hatred towards them, they tried to take his wife, throne, everything
Who is Argus? Odysseus hound
What happens to Argus? Once he hears Odysseus voice he dies
What does Odysseus order Telemachus to do when Odysseus gives him a signal? Grab weapons, armor and put in store room
Which suitor is the meanest and the leader? Antinous
How does he anger Odysseus? Antinous insults him and throws stool at him
Why does Penelope summon Odysseus? What is ironic about her interview with him? She doesn't recognize him, tries to gather info to find Odysseus but doesn't know that shes talking to him
What role does the shroud play in the story? Waist time to disguise and prolong the suitors so they can't marry her
Who urges Penelope to marry one of the suitors? her parents and her son
What is “the test of the bow”? whoever strings Odysseus bow and shoots the arrow through 12 axe heads will marry her
Who did Odysseus kill first and why? Antinous, he was there leader
Who helped Odysseus fight the suitors and defeat them? Eumauas, Athena, Telemachus, Zeus
How does Eurymachus plead his case with Odysseus? blames Antinous and says it wasn't his fault
How does Penelope test Odysseus? She orders servant to move there marriage bed and Odysseus gets angry
Why does she test him? to see if its truly him
How did Odysseus’s behavior change in part 2? Explain. more cautious, humble, quieter

What was the main idea when Argus died and y? Loyalty, showed that he was loyal and waited for his master (Odysseus)
