| estimate | a number that is close to the exact answer - an estimate indicates ABOUT how much |
| regroup | to use place value to exchange equal amounts when renaming a number |
| round | to change the value of a number so it is easier to work with |
| Associative Property | the property that states that the GROUPING of addends does not change the sum |
| Communitive Property | the property that states the ORDER of addends does not change the sum |
| Identity Property | the property that states that if you add ZERO to a number the number will stay the same |
| parentheses | symbols that are used to group numbers |
| pattern | a sequence of numbers, symbols, or figures that follow a rule. |
| unknown | missing number or the number to be solved for |
| mental math | ordering or grouping numbers so they are easier to solve in your head. |
