Module 3 8th Grade Math

TermDefinition
Ordered Pair Used to represent two variables on a coordinate plane (x,y)
x-value The first value (number) of an ordered pair
y-value The second value (number) of an ordered pair
Relation A set of ordered pairs ex. (1,2), (3,6), (5,10)
Function One or more rules that are applied to an input and yield an output
Function Rule Tells you how to find the value of the dependent variable, y, in terms of the independent variable, x
Function Table Displays the inputs and corresponding outputs of a function
Input Is the number or value put into a function
Output Is the number or value the function gives out
Dependent A variable (often denoted by y) whose value depends on that of another
Independent A variable (often denoted by x) whose variation does not depend on that of another
