Theory U.3
Unit 3: Equations, inequations and systems.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Biquadratic equation | Biquadratic equations are fourth-degree equations with no odd-degree terms. ax4 + bx2 + c = 0 |
| Rational equation | An equation contains at least one algebraic fraction. |
| Equations with radicals | Equations where x is under a square root. |
| Exponential equations | Exponential equations are equations where the unknown is in the exponent. |
| Logarithmic equations | Logarithmic equations are equations where the unknown is in an expression affected by a logarithm. We solve them by looking at the properties of the logarithms. |
| System of linear equations | Two equations form a system of equations when our aim is to find a common solution. If both equations are linear, it is called a linear system. ax + by = c a'x + b'y = c' |
