TermDefinition
Organism An individual living thing
Species A group of organisms that are closely related and that can mate to produce fertile offspring
Population All the members of the same species that live in the same place at the same time
Community A group of various species that live in the same place and interact with each other
Habitat The place an organism lives
Biodiversity The variety of life on Earth, or a particular ecosystem
Endangered Species A species that is likely to become extinct in the near future
Biodiversity Treaty Treaty created by the UN to preserve the variety of life in the world
Poaching Illegal hunting, fishing, or harvesting of wildlife
Threatened Species A species that has a declining population and is likely to become endangered in the near future
Endangered Species Act Act created by the US to stop the harm of endangered species
Climate Change a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.
Anthropocene Effects is sometimes used to simply describe the time during which humans have had a substantial impact on our planet.
