How did Jamestown survive? The arrival of supply ships and the strong leadership of John Smith
Why was the General Assembly in 1619 important? it was the first elected legislative body
How would you describe the Virginia General Assembly? It consisted of 2 legislative bodies and free adult white men could be a part of it
Why did England want to establish a colony in the New World? They hoped the colony would be a good market for trade and they wanted to increase their wealth and power
Who financed the settlement of Jamestown? The stockholders of the Virginia Company of London
Why did the King of England grant charters to the Virginia Company of London? He wanted to establish a settlement in North America
Why did the English settlers choose the site of Jamestown? It was easily defended from attack from the Spanish, they believed there was a good supply of fresh water, and the water was deep enough for their ships to dock
