### Multiplication and long division Study questions

The first digit in the quotient of 1,875 ÷ 9 hundreds
dividend The number that is to be divided in a division problem. Example: 36 ÷ 6; 36 is the dividend.
divisor The number that divides the dividend Example: 15 ÷ 3; 3 is the divisor.
estimate to find a number that is close to the exact amount
factor A number multiplied by another number to find a product. Example: 46 × 3 = 138; 46 and 3 are factors.
product The answer to a multiplication problem Example: 3 × 15 = 45; 45 is the product.
quotient the number, not including the remainder, that results from dividing. Example: 8 ÷ 4 = 2; 2 is the quotient.
remainder the amount left over when a number cannot be divided evenly.
