Brain stem Controls involuntary activities such as breathing
Cerebrum Directs motor activities
Pituitary gland Releases hormones that control metabolism and sexual development
Thalamus Controls the way emotions are expressed
Pituitary gland Secretes hormones that regulate growth
Cerebrum The cortex is the outer layer of this part of the brain
Spinal cord Coordinates the activities of the two sides of the body
Spinal cord Controls simples reflexes that do not involve the brain
Cerebellum Controls muscular coordination, balance, and posture
