TermDefinition
Base Runner A player of the offensive team who has succesfully reached base
Batter's Box The area to which a batter is restricted while batting.
Batting Order The Offical listing of the offensive players in the order in which they take turns at bat
Defensive Team The team in the field
Double play A play by the defensive team resulting in two offensive players being leagally put out as a result of continous action.
Fair Ball Is Stops or is touched between homke and first or home and third, inside of the foul line Goes beyond third or first base Touches third or first base Is touched in the infield even if the ball started in foul territory and rolled fair
Fair Territory The part of the playing field between first and third base lines which extend from each side of homeplate to the outfield boundry.
Fielder Any player of a team in the playing field on the defensive team
Fly Ball Any ball batted in the air
Force Out any out made at a base on an advancing runner when the base she or he is running on needs to be vacated for the runner behind him or her.
Foul Ball A ball that is either touched or lands outside of the foul lines of the field. A foul ball or tip can be cought for an out, including a tip if it is higher than the batter's head.
Infield Any part of the playing field normally covered by infielders, pither, catcher, first, second, third basemen, plus the shortstop.
Infield Fly Rule Can caught by an infielder with ordinary effor when first, second, and third are occupied by runners. The umpire calls out Infield fly rule, the batter is automatically out and runners can advance at their own risk .Must have less than two outs.
inning The portion of the game where within each team bats and fields one time.
Line Drive A ball batted sharply in a low flight into a field of play.
Offensive Team Team That is batting
Outfield The part of the field beyond the infiled, formed by baselines. In slow pitch there are four outfielders: Left fielder, left-center fielder, right center fielder, and the right fielder.
Overthrow A thrown ballwhich goes beyond the fielder it was being thrown to
Run A run is made when a base runner legally crosses the plate. A run scores after the third out does not count. A home run is scored when a player hits the ball over the outfield fence, or is able to get all 4 bases before being tagged out.
The offensive team loses it turn to bat when....... When the defensive team scores three outs.
There are ______ positions. They are 9 and pitcher, catcher, 1st, 2nd, 3rd base, shortstop, left fielder, center fielder, and right fielder.
How many Innings in a game, unless what? 7 or 9 innings. Unless the score is tied of the home team is ahead after 6 and a half inningsm depending on the level.
A strike is recordered when..... A batted ball goes into foul territory, when a batter swings and misses, or a pitch lands in the strike zone without being swung at. 3 Strikes result in a strikout. In slow pitch softball, a foul ball after two strikes also results in a srikeout.
A ball is called when The batter does not swing at a pitch that is out of the strikezone, 4 balls constitute a walk.
A base runner is automatically out if.... He or she runs more than three feet sideways of an imaginary line between the bases to avoid being tagged out, or if hit by a batted ball.
A single is a hit for a hit that the runner.... reaches first base, a double for second base, a triple for 3rd base, and a home run for all 4 bases.
Runners who leave a base on a fly ball before it is touched by a defensive player will be out if the defensive team gets the ball to the base before the runner returns.
Base Runners must try... to avoid fielders attempting to play the ball.
Catcher is located at Right behind the Homeplate.
Pitcher is located at The middle of the infield, In a line with pitcher
First basemen is located at BY First base, outside of infield square
Second basemen is located at By Second base outside of infield square
Third basemen is located at By Third base outside of infield square
Shortstop is located at between the third baseman and the second-base
Right Fielder Right outfield
Left fielder Left Outfield
Center Fielder Center outfield
