Electricity Basic

Lesson 1

TermDefinition
Electrical Force A force that one charge exerts on another. When the charges are the same sign, they repel; when the charges are opposite, they attract.
Electrical Charge a property of matter, either positive or negative
Positive Charge Protons
Negative Charge Electrons
Neutral Charge Contains an equal number of protons and electrons
Electrical Field The field around electrically charge objects
Force of Attraction A force that pulls objects together
Force of Repulsion A force that pushes object apart
Static Electricity A buildup of charges on an object.
Static Discharge The loss of static electricity as electric charges transfer from one object to another.
Charging by Friction Transfer of electrons between the two objects that rubbed together
Charging by Conduction Type of charging where the charge is transferred from a charge object to an uncharged object by touching them together.
Charging by Induction Process of rearranging electrons on a neutral object by bringing a charge object closed to it.
