Physical Properties
| Term | Definition |

| Physical property | Characteristic of matter that can be seen through direct observation |
| Malleability | Ability to be molded into shapes or flattened into sheets |
| Conductivity | Ability to transfer heat or electricity |
| Boiling point | Temperature at which a substance goes from liquid to gas |
| Luster | How shiny an object is. (The ability to reflect light.) |
| Ductility | Ability to be pulled into a long wire |
| Melting point | Temperature at which a substance goes from solid to liquid |
| Metal | An element that is typically hard, shiny, malleable, and ductile (with good electrical and thermal conductivity). |
| Metalloid | An element that has some of the characteristics of metals and some of the characteristics of nonmetals. |
| Nonmetal | An element that is typically soft and dull and not a good conductor of heat and electricity. |
| Mass | The amount of matter in an object. |
| Volume | The amount of space an object occupies (or takes up) |
