Graphing Linear Equations
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Set of all solutions | Each ordered pair that is a solution to the equation. In the case of a linear function, the set of all its solutions is the line it plots. |
| Slope-intercept form | A two-variable linear equation of the form y=mx+b, where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept. |
| Standard form | A two-variable linear equation of the form Ax+By=C, where A, B, and C are real numbers and A and B are nonzero |
| Ordered pair | Coordinates in the x,y plane, in which the first value is the independent quantity, and the second is the dependent quantity. |
| y-intercept | The point at which a graph intersects the y-axis. |
| x-intercept | The point at which a graph intersects the x-axis. |
| point-slope form | The form y−y1=mx−x1 for linear equations, where m is the slope of the line. |
| Parameter | Any factor that defines a function and determines, or limits, its performance. |
