myths a story that people tell to explain their beliefs about the world and nature
traditions part of human culture passed from one generation to another and can take many forms; can be stories, beliefs, rituals, customs, songs, food

god a being believed to have supernatural powers and who should be worshiped; in some monotheistic religions, god is capitalized (God) and means the all-knowing being that is worshiped as the creator and ruler of the universe

descendant someone who comes from a specific ancestor; an offspring (child or young animal)
sacrifice to give up or offer something (or someone) to a god or deity in order to please the god
edict a demand or decree issued by someone in authority (in power)
deity a person or thing thought of as a god or goddess
code of conduct a set of rules to live by; these rules tell people how to act towards each other and how to act towards their God or gods
culture a pattern of behavior shared by a society or group of people; some things that make up culture include food, language, clothing, tools, music, arts, customs, beliefs, and religion
convert to bring over from one belief or view to another
impact a significant or major effect

Allah Arabic name for God
Siddhartha Gautama Founder of Buddhism; means "the enlightened one"
Brahman The universal god for Hinduism; the supreme force that is the source of all that exists
persecute to cause someone to suffer or to punish someone because of their beliefs
