Ratios, Rates, and %

TermDefinition
Coordinate Plane a plane formed by a horizontal number line, called the x-axis, that intersects a vertical number line called the y-axis.
Equivalent describes expressions or quantities that have the same value (such as 1:3 and 3:9)
Ordered Pair a pair of numbers describing the location of a point on the coordinate plane (X,Y)
Percent a part-to-whole ratio that compares an amount to 100 (such as 50% being 50 over 100)
Rate A ratio of two quantities with different units (such as distance/time or dollars/hours)
Ratio a comparison of two numbers of quantities (such as 4 red balloons to 3 yellow balloons is 4:3)
Unit Rate a ratio of measurements in which the second measurement (or denominator) is 1 unit (such as speed being a unit rate of distance per 1 hour)
