Subjects and Verbs

Review Subjects, Helping Verbs, Action Verbs and Linking Verbs

TermDefinition
subject tells whom or what the sentence is about
complete subject includes a noun or pronoun and all the words that describe it
simple subject the KEY WORD in the complete subject that tells whom or what the sentence is about
predicate (verb) tells what the subject is, has, does, feels
action verb also called the main word. Shows what the subject of the sentence is doing
linking verb does not express and action. Links a subject of the sentence to a word in the predicate
helping verb helps the main verb.
