Subjects and Verbs
Review Subjects, Helping Verbs, Action Verbs and Linking Verbs
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| subject | tells whom or what the sentence is about |
| complete subject | includes a noun or pronoun and all the words that describe it |
| simple subject | the KEY WORD in the complete subject that tells whom or what the sentence is about |
| predicate (verb) | tells what the subject is, has, does, feels |
| action verb | also called the main word. Shows what the subject of the sentence is doing |
| linking verb | does not express and action. Links a subject of the sentence to a word in the predicate |
| helping verb | helps the main verb. |
| verb phrase | made up of at least one helping verb and an action verb |
