My Math: Chapter 2 vocabulary

TermDefinition
Commutative Property of Addition The order of the addends does not change the sum.
Addend Any numbers being added together.
Associative Property of Addition The way that addends are grouped does not change the sum.
Identity Property of Addition The sum of any number and 0 is the number.
Subtraction Rule #1 When you subtract 0 from a number, the result is the number.
Subtraction Rule #2 When you subtract any number from itself, the result is 0.
equation A number sentence containing an equal sign, showing that the two expressions are equal.
subtrahend The number subtracted from another number. (Bottom number)
minuend The number from which another number is subtracted. (Top Number)
Variable A letter or symbol used to represent an unknown quantity.
unknown An amount that has not been identified.
