Chapter One Math Vocabulary to Study!

value how much a number is worth
place value the value given to a digit by its position in a number
period the name give to each group of three digits in a place value chart
standard form the usual way of writing numbers using only digits
expanded form the representation of a number as a sum that shows the value of each digit
word form the form of a number that uses written words
place value chart a chart that shows the value of each digit in a number
greater than > the number on the left is more than the number on the right
less than < the number on the left is smaller than the number on the right
equal to = the numbers are the same
estimate an answer that is close to an exact answer
