Place value & Operations Vocab

| power of ten | a number that can be written as a product of tens |
| exponent | the number in a power that tells how many times to use the base as a factor in repeated multiplication |
| base | in a power, the number to show the place value of each digit |
| expanded form | a way to write a number to show the place value of each digit |
| inverse operations | operations that undo each other; For example, addition and subtraction are inverse operations and multiplication and division are inverse operations. |
| place value | the value of a digit based on its position in a number |
| tenths | the parts formed when a whole is divided into 10 equal parts |
| hundredths | the parts formed when a whole is divided into 100 equal parts |
| base ten | a ten-digit number system in which the value of a digit depends on its place; the value of each place is 10 times the value of the place to the right and 1/10 of the value of the place to the left |
| thousandths | the parts formed when a whole is divided into 1,000 equal parts |
| quotient | the answer in division problem |
| sum | the answer in an addition problem |
| product | the answer in a multiplication problem |
| divisor | the number that is doing the dividing in a division problem |
| factors | the numbers being multiplied in a multiplication problem |
| dividend | the number that is being divided in a division problem |
| addends | the numbers being added in an addition problem |
| difference | the answer in a subtraction problem |
| remainder | what is left over in a division problem, such as 12/5 |
| multiples | any given number times every other number |
