Adverbs
Term | Definition |

Adverbs of manner | These modify verbs, e.g: We ran 'quickly' to the car. |
Adverbs/ adverbials of time | These explain the duration, frequency and period of time when an action takes place, e.g: on Monday. |
Adverbs/ adverbials of place | These express position, direction and distance, e.g: in London, to town, on the table. |
Adverbs of degree | Expresses the intensity or degree of an action, e.g: extremely, quite, very. |
Adverbs of frequency | These express how often something happens, e.g: usually, often, sometimes. |
Sentence adverb | Used to refer to a whole statement, usually to convey a writer's attitude, e.g: frankly, obviously. |
Adverbials (adverb phrase) | Refers to a word or a group of words that modifies or more closely defines the sentence or the verb, e.g: Before Mark came over. |
