Wedding Customs

Wedding customs vocabulary

TermDefinition
MARRIAGE PROPOSAL the time when someone asks another person to get married
ENGAGEMENT time when engaged, before marriage
FIANCEE, FIANCE female/male name for someone who will get married
ELOPE run away to get married, usually without other people (only the couple)
BRIDE the woman who is getting married
GROOM the man who is getting married
WEDDING PARTY all the people who have parts/things to do during the wedding day
MAID OF HONOR the most important person to the bride, usually a best friend or family member
BEST MAN the most important person to the groom, usually a best friend or family member
BRIDESMAIDS the women who stand with/help the bride during the wedding day, usually good friends or family members
GROOMSMEN the men who stand with/help the groom during the wedding day, usually good friends or family members
BRIDAL/WEDDING GOWN the dress worn by the bride on her wedding day
VEIL a face covering worn by the bride on her wedding day
TRAIN extra fabric behind the dress
BOUQUET a handheld flower arrangement
AISLE the space between the chairs where people walk
