Essential Review

Unit 1

TermDefinition
Associative Property When adding or multiplying, it does not matter where you place the parentheses.
commutative Property You can change the order in which you add or multiply and it does NOT change the sum or product.
Complex Fractions Fractions that contain fractions within their numerator and/or denominator.
Dividing Two Fractions Dividing 2 fractions is the same as taking the first fraction and multiplying it by the reciprocal of the second fraction. Also known as keep change flip.
Equivalent Rations Two ratios that have the same value.

Product The answer to a multiplication question.
Quotient The answer to a division question.
Repeating Decimal A number or group of numbers is repeated indefinitely.
Terminating Decimal A decimal number that contains a infinite number of digits after the decimal point. Also known as a number that ends.
Unit Rate A rate with a denominator of ONE.
Exponents A method for representing repeated multiplication.
Rate A quantity measured and compared to another quantity measured (such as number of miles per hour)
