| Term | Definition |

| Genre | a category of literature identified by the content or style. |
| Objective | The main points you should be able to identify after reading the chapter. |
| prior knowledge | Considering how much you know about the information before starting the reading. |
| Criteria | A standard by which something could be judged or decided |
| annotation | A note, explanation or comment added to the reading |
| misconception | A view or opinion that is not correct because it is false thinking or understanding. |
| Predictive reading | When you make predictions to what the reading is going to be about from the title or if there is pictures. |
| Close reading | Thoughtful critical analysis of the text |
| Familiarize | To be well aware of the the text |
| Context | The reading that is being studied or looked at |
| syllabus | The guide that will tell what is expected of you that could include the policies, rules, regulations required materials and the course calendar. |
| Degree evaluation | An evaluation to make sure the student has taken all courses to graduate. This is done after the student has finished their schooling. |
| Default | This is when students do not pay back student loans in the correct time. This will lead them to have bad credit. |
| Developmental | These are courses that are required to take in order to be eligible to take some classes |
| pre-requisite | Classes that a student needs to take and get a passing grade in before taking a higher-level course. |
| Accommodation | Are privileges for kids that have a disability that is getting in the way of them for succeeding. |
| Disqualified | Ineligible for something because of there wrong circumstances. |
| Commencement | A ceremony given to honor students when they graduate school. |
| Certificate | A document pertaining to a certain fact |
| transcript | A documentation of all the classes that a student has take with each grade they received. |
