| exponent | the number or variable that represents the number of times the base is used as a factor |
| base | a number or variable that is used as a factor in repeated multiplication |
| sum | the answer to an addition problem |
| grouping symbols | symbols, such as parentheses or brackets, that indicate the order in which operations should be performed |
| quotient | the answer to a division problem |
| equation | a statement formed when an equal sign is placed between two expressions |
| inequality | a sentence formed when two expressions are compared, with one being greater than the other |
| difference | the answer to a subtraction problem |
| function | a relationship between two quantities, where each input has exactly one output |
| solution | the value or values that make an equation or inequality true |
| product | the answer to a multiplication problem |
| range | the collection of all output values |
| domain | the collection or all input values |
| open sentence | a mathematical sentence that contains variables |
