Suicide Prevention

| Define suicide? | Voluntary act of killing oneself, a fatal, self-inflicted destructive act with explicit or inferred intent to die, sometimes called suicide completion. |
| Define suicidality? | All suicide related behaviors and thoughts of completing or attempting suicide and suicide ideation. |
| Define suicide attempt? | Non-fatal, self-inflicted destructive act with explicit or implicit intent to die. |
| Define parasuicide? | Voluntary, apparent attempt at suicide, commonly called a suicidal gesture, in which the aim is NOT death. |
| Define suicidal ideation? | Thinking about and planning one's own death. |
| Population groups that have the highest rates for suicide? | Males have a higher suicide completion rate four times more than females. White men most at risk especially older men. |
