Unit fraction a fraction with a numerator of one; names one part of the whole
improper fraction a fraction whose numerator is greater than its denominator
proper fraction a fraction that is less than one, with the numerator less than the denominator
difference the amount left over when one number is subtracted from another; the answer to a subtraction problem
fraction a number that names part of a whole or set and represents division of whole numbers
numerator in a fraction, the number of parts counted; top number
denominator in a fraction, the number of equal parts or groups in the whole; bottom number
whole all parts are present; a complete object or group
equivalent having the same value
decompose to separate a number into two or more parts
mixed number number that is made up of a whole number and a proper fraction
