***compass rose a small graphic on a map showing intermediate and cardinal directions
***cardinal directions the 4 main directions on a map or globe (N, S, E, W)
***intermediate directions the directions located between the main directions on a map or globe (NW, SW, NE, SE)
***relative location (sometimes called relative direction) the description of a place in relation to another point or place
***map scale the relationship between distance on a map and the real distance on Earth
***human characteristics (features) a man-made feature or boundary on Earth
***physical characteristics (features) An imaginary line that divides the Earth into hemispheres
***absolute location (sometimes called absolute direction) the exact spot where something is located on Earth
globe A model of the earth
