Cirrhosis Severe disease of the liver usually associated with alcohol abuse nutritional deficiency or poisoning or previous infection.
Dyspepsia Indigestion often caused by the change in the amount of gastric secretion.
Hepatitis Inflammation of the liver
Ulcer Repeated irritation causes a sore in the lining of the stomach or duodenum
Pyorrhea Inflammation of the gums and the tooth socket leading to loosening of the teeth.
Phlebitis Inflammation of a vein
Syncope A brief time of loss consciousness
Tachycardia Excessively rapid heartbeat usually over 100 bpm
Thrombosis The formation of a blood clot
Thrombophlebitis Inflammation of a vein that usually leads to a blood clot
Arteriosclerosis Thickening and hardening of the artierial wall by calcium buildup that interferes with blood circulation
Bradycardia Slow heart beat refers to those under 60 bpm
Atherosclerosis A deposit of degenerative accumulation of cholesterol and lipoid materials and arteries
Hemoptysis Coughing up blood
Encephalitis Inflammation of the brain
Meningitis Inflammation of the layers covering the brain and spinal cord
Myasthenia Graves A disease characterized by muscle weakness
Huntington’s disease Hereditary progressive disease causing dance like movements, mental disorientation and ending in dementia
Parkinson’s disease A chronic nerves disease characterized by a slow spreading tumor
Poliomyelitis Inflammation of the gray matter of the spinal cord
Sciatica Severe Nerve pain in the leg along the sciatica nerve
Tic douloureux Degeneration of the trigemal nerve causing pain and spasms of the face
Gullians-Barre’ syndrome No feeling from the feet going up eventually makes it’s way up to the neck.
What is congestive heart failure The heart cannot pump effectively the fluid backs up in the vessel and tissues causing edema in the tissue abdomen or lungs. The heart is unable to eject blood out the left ventricle effectively
What is shock A state in which the blood flow to the peripheral tissues arms and legs is inadequate to sustain life
Gout Acute arthritis and inflammation of the joints
Lock jaw-tetanus Specific bacteria growing at the site of injury especially around a contaminated puncture wound. Stiff jaw,difficulty swallowing, stiff neck, headache, irritation, convulsions, possibly death
Aphasia Inability to express oneself through speech or loss of verbal comprehension
Apraxia Inability to understand the meaning of things
Agnosia Loss of sensory perception
Tardive dyskinesia Involuntary repetitive useless movements such as spasms profusions of the tongue, stiff neck and inability to swallow that occurs almost continuously through the day but cease at sleep. Usually associated with long term psychotic meds
Psychosis A major mental disorder in which a person’s personality is deranged causing a loss of contact with reality.
Neurosis An emotional reaction that interfere with leading a normal life, probably due to a unresolved conflict which makes it uneasy to adjust to life
Legend medications Can only be obtained with a prescription filled by a licensed pharmacist
Non-legend medication Over the counter medicines
Nocturia Frequent nighttime urination (diuretics affect)
Diuretic Increase urine production,used to treat edema associated with congestive heart failure, liver or kidney disease
Cystitis Bladder infection the inflammation of urinary bladder
Phelonephiritis Inflammation of both the kidneys and the lining of the pelvis usually due to bacterial infection
Tinea pedis Athlete's foot highly contagious fungus found in warm damp places such as shower rooms and public bathrooms
Glaucoma An obstruction or overproduction of fluid in the eye which results in increased pressure w/in the eye
Negligence Is the omission or neglect of any reasonable precautions care or action.
Libel Any Written statement that damages a person character

Is any improper or injuries practice or any unskillful were faulty medical or surgical treatment

Doing only those things that you have been trying to do acting as others would act in in the same or similar situations
Code of ethics Is a voluntary set of rules that influence relationships between people they are based on dignity and respect for each other individuals rights
Standard of care I description of conduct illustrates illustrates what a risk reasonably prudent person would have done or would not have done under similar circumstances
Hemorrhage Excessive loss of blood
Cyanotic A bluish discoloration of the skin resulting from poor circulation or in adequate oxygenation of the blood
Stomatitis Inflammation of the mouth
Pruritus Severe itching without evidence of a skin rash
Cumulative effect Build up of substances that could lead to toxicity
Synergistic Effects Occurs when a combination of factors start a unwanted change in a specific condition ex: drinking & antibiotics
Pylonephritis Inflammation of both kidneys and the lining of its pelvis usually due to bacterial infection frequently responsible for renal failure
Edema Excessive accumulation of fluid in the tissues. Due to the bodies inability to release fluids due to kidney or heart failure
Urinary retention Inability to empty bladder. Usually caused by Benign prostatic hypertrophy, bladder or prostate cancer, or a side effect of medication
Akathisia Motor restlessness inability to sit still continuous move to of hands feet and drumming of fingers
Akinesia Complete or partial loss of muscle movement
Antiseptic A substance that inhibits the growth of germs used as cleaning agents to prevent the spread of infections
Bursitis Inflammation of a bursa (sac or cavity around the joint) usually at the shoulder or knee joint
Swimmers ears Caused by bacteria and fungus treatment oral antibiotics or ear drops
Otitis media Caused by respiratory viral or throat infection symptoms dizziness ringing of the ears n&v loss of hearing as a part of the disease process: treatment restrictions on salt and caffeine may be treated w diuretics and antiemetic
