Unit 1: Equivalent forms of Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

| benchmark | a point of reference by which something can be measured |
| denominator | the bottom number in a fraction showing the number of parts the whole is divided into |
| dividend | the number being divided |
| division | sharing or grouping a number into equal parts |
| divisor | a number that will divide the dividend |
| equal to (=) | having the same amount or value |
| equivalent | equal in value, amount, function, meaning, etc |
| factor | a whole number that multiplies with another number to make a third number |
| improper fraction | a fraction equivalent to or larger than one whole; the numerator is larger than or equal to the denominator. |
| mixed number | a number written as a whole number with a fraction |
| numerator | number above the line of a fraction, showing the number of parts of the whole |
| part-to whole comparison | a comparison of the selected number of parts to the total number of parts in a whole. |
| percent/percentage | a percent or percentage is a fraction expressed as a number out of 100 followed by the % symbol. |
| product | the result when two numbers are multiplied. |
| proportion | being in proportion means that two ratios or fractions are of equal value. |
| quotient | the number resulting from dividing one number by another, the answer. |
| simplified form (fraction) | to reduce the numerator and denominator in a fraction to the smallest numbers possible. |
