Lit SS Terms
Here are some literary terms for our short story unit. Viola!

| Character | the person, animal, or other being that takes part in the story's action. |
| Dynamic | character that develops and grows during the course of the story |
| Static | Character that does not change |
| Round | Character that shows many different traits |
| Flat | Character that shows only one trait |
| Characterization | The act of creating and developing a character |
| Direct Characterization | the author directly states a characters'traits |
| Indirect Characterization | The author tells what a character looks like,does and says |
| Conflict | a struggle between opposing forces |
| Plot | the sequence of events in a literary work |
| Exposition | introduces the setting, the characters, and a central conflict |
| Inciting incident | introduces the central conflict |
| Climax | rising action |
| Foreshadowing | the use in a literary work of clues that suggest events that have yet to occur |
| Irony (my favorite) | The general term for literary techniques that potray differences between appearence and reality, or expectation and result |
| Mood | the feeling created in a reader by the literary work or passage |
| Point of View | directs the type and amount of information the writer reveals |
| Protagonist | main character in a literary work |
| Setting | The time and place of action |
| Symbol | anything that stands for or represents something else |
| theme | a central message or insight into life revealed through a literary work |
