7th grade Math Number System Lesson 1-4

TermDefinition
Absolute Value The distance of a number to its origin on a number line, |n|
Additive Inverse The opposite of a number
Integer A positive number, a negative number, or zero, but not a fraction or decimal
Irrational Numbers A number that cannot be written as a fraction
Opposite Numbers Two numbers that have the same numeral, but have opposite signs
Quantity An amount that can be counted
Rational Numbers A number that a can be written as a ratio
Zero Pair A pair of numbers whose sum is zero
Decimal a fraction whose denominator is a power of ten and whose numerator is expressed by figures placed to the right of a decimal point.
Product the result of a multiplication problem
Quotient the result of a division problem
Terminating Decimal a decimal with a finite number of digits
Repeating decimal a decimal fraction in which a figure or group of figures is repeated indefinitely
Equivalent equal in value
