(Carr) Formal Steps of Writing Process - Exam review

Prewriting | Step 1. All of the things you do before you actually write. Determine audience, genre, format, and purpose. May use graphic organizers, lists, brainstorming, outlines, etc. |
Drafting | Step 2. Process of taking the prewriting and turning it into sentences and paragraphs. Aka rough draft. |
Revising | Step 3. Reviewing and changing your draft for sequence, logic, readabilty, staying on topic, genre, format, following directions, word selection, etc. NOT proofreading! |
Editing | Step 4. Reviewing and correcting the revised draft for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, verb tenses, and grammar. This is the step where you do the proofreading. |
Publishing | Step 5/Final step. Produce a final piece of writing and share it with others. The sharing can be through posting, reading aloud, recorded on tape or video, etc. |
